FAQs

Below are common questions that have come up. If you still have a question, feel free to reach out to us.

What does a physical therapist do?

Physical therapists are medical experts in evaluating and rehabilitating those challenged with discomfort and/or mobility deficits.

Our team of experts will work with you to improve your mobility, comfort and function while providing education on medical fitness, nutrition and overall health.

How long will I need PT?

Traditional PT Plans of care range in time depending on the complexity of the challenge and may vary from 1-12 weeks. Our lifestyle medicine team works together to develop a personalized treatment plan that takes into account your specific needs.

What will happen during my first physical therapy appointment?

Your overall health is important to us. Each physical therapy evaluation at Pearl PT begins with a Health Risk Assessment (HRA) conducted by an exercise specialist. The HRA provides you and your team with the information needed to determine the underlying cause of your current condition, not just the symptoms, to help you optimize your health, wellness, comfort and function.

You will then meet your physical therapist who will conduct a comprehensive evaluation based on the current clinical symptoms and the information collected from your HRA.

Does physical therapy hurt?

Physical therapy should not be painful, but you may experience some temporary soreness and discomfort as you work to strengthen and stretch new muscles.

Do I need a physician referral before making a PT appointment?

In New York State, you do not need a doctor's referral to come to Pearl Physical Therapy?  Clients with health insurance have direct access to Physical Therapy treatment without a referral from their physician – except for those injured in a work related or motor vehicle accident as well as clients with Medicare, where a physician’s referral is required.

Which payment types do you accept?

We accept cash, checks, and all major credit cards. Please note that copayments and coinsurance will be collected at the time of service.

What should I wear to my sessions?

Wear loose, comfortable clothing that does not restrict your movement in any way. Aim for athletic attire over jeans.

What should I bring to my first PT appointment?

Be sure to bring your insurance card, any intake forms, and a doctor signed referral if you have one.

How early should I arrive for my first appointment?

We ask that all new patients arrive 15 minutes before their appointment to complete any remaining paperwork.
